It seems like you maybe thought I was saying the exact opposite of what I was trying to say. I’m not sure if that’s your error or mine, so let me be clear: “Social construct” doesn’t mean “not real”, it means “important to consider when dealing with other people”.

Race being a social construct does not make slurs any more permissible to use.
ℕ𝕖𝕞𝕠@slrpnk.netto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•This is a lovely gesture, but also it's pretty sad (and very North American?) that if your car dies at the store you can't get home without relying on the tenuous kindness of strangersEnglish8·17 hours ago…which is much more likely in a walkable community where people actually see each other every day instead of locking themselves away in metal boxes.
You’re right! Which album is best for housecleaning, in your opinion?

Then use those funds to fix infastructure or a new WPA of the 21st century?47·2 days agoIf they’re using fake papers to work, they’re paying income tax (and payroll tax is paid for them as well) but can’t file for a refund or unemployment insurance payments. They pay into Social Security but won’t be able to collect it (though I think anyone under 50 can probably relate to that).
When they buy things, they pay sales tax like anyone else.
They pay their landlady’s property tax if renting and pay it themselves if not.

Doesn’t really keep my bike where I expect it to be, though, does it? So what does all that violation of human rights actually buy us?

They’re not conservatives. They want to conserve nothing. They seek only to destroy anything in the way of their own power, like all fascists.
ℕ𝕖𝕞𝕠@slrpnk.netto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the difference between a neoclassical liberal, a social liberal, and a progressive social democrat?6·3 days agoI’m not familiar with the term “neoclassical liberal”, but in the US:
“Social liberal” means liberal on social issues (people should be able to do what they want, government shouldn’t police morality or sex, against segregation and discrimination) but not on other issues (eg. national defense, economics, criminal law).
Whereas “progressive social Democrat” is in favor of actively correcting social ills, eg. with affirmative action hiring, better public education, comprehensive sex ed; while also holding left-wing economic positions and otherwise falling in line with the DNC.
