  • Yeah, it most likely isn’t an exe but a Linux binary! Other than that, you can probably run the server on your computer pretty easily. You probably won’t be able to host anywhere close to the number of players the official servers do, but that’s just a matter of stronger hardware.

So yeah, they don’t provide the server because they’re “evil”.

They could also do the bare minimum of patching the game so it allows any server and avoid stuff like certificate pinning etc. and then provide an OpenAPI specification for the server and let the community create their own server if they want.

  • It’s not any more secure. The point that “installing random debs is insecure” has been running around for at least the last 16 years I’ve been a Linux user.

While it’s technically true, AppImages are as secure as random debs. Same with random repositories that are not provided by your system. Same with flatpaks.

And unless you’re an extremely basic user, you’ll eventually have to install an application not in your repositories. The method doesn’t really matter, it’s all equally (in)secure.

  • Well, NixOS is mostly for enthusiasts and it’s very much the opposite of beginner friendly.

The idea is that you configure your system in a configuration file, then run a command that makes your system match exactly what you configured.

So instead of apt install or similar you just add the package to your config, run a single command to rebuild the system and you’re done.

Which also means you’re mostly on your own, most guides for other distros don’t work and the documentation on how to do the things in NixOS are very incomplete. It’s nice and fun, but definitely not for an average user.

  • It’s normal, at the beginning they’re just machines that transform milk into piss and shit. That will change, you’ll get your share of having to entertain your kid.

As for the breastfeeding, she has to persevere (if she wants to, that is), there’s nothing else to do. If you’ve checked that there are no physical issues preventing the breastfeeding, there’s literally no other way to make it a habit. This is new not only for the mother, but for the kid as well. No one likes changes, especially if it’s literally the first big change of your life. There’s some getting used to for all sides.

As for the anxiousness, I don’t think I’ve met a woman who thinks she’s doing okay during the first weeks. All of them were in fact doing very well, but reality and our perception of it don’t often go hand in hand. The hormone amounts doing stuff in her body right now are massive, she’s gonna be a little crazy for the first ~6 weeks. And your reassurances do help, just don’t expect miracles, she simply knows she’s doing it wrong.

  • Yes, every application has access to everything. The only exception are those weird apps that use the universal framework or whatever that thing is called, those need to ask for permissions. But most of the apps on your PC have full access to everything.

And Windows does collect and upload a lot of personal information and they could easily upload everything on your system. The same of course applies for the apps as well, they have access to everything except privileged folders (those usually don’t contain your personal data, but system files).

  • I know what people mean when they say it, just wanted people to know that it’s incorrect.

What kind of arrogance is that? I honestly don’t know. Or are you saying that using correct diagnosis doesn’t matter?

I honestly did not expect that kind of reaction, I thought I was just helping others learn. So yeah, my staying ignorant comment is very apt and not ironically arrogant.

And your “barely on the fringe of being technically correct” is ridiculous because I’m not only technically correct, sociopath simply isn’t a diagnosis. If you tell that word to a psychologist, they’ll internally roll their eyes, because that term doesn’t exist in psychology.
